It is a general financial support paid directly by the state to everyone who is taking care of a child in Hungary. You can learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/helpersfinance.hu\/family-allowance-in-hungary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">family allowance in detail here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is relevant for employers and employees because it is the basis\nof the family tax benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Family tax benefit (\u201ccsal\u00e1di ad\u00f3kedvezm\u00e9ny\u201d)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The family tax benefit affects the net salary of employees, since it reduces the amount of taxes to be paid from the employee\u2019s gross salary, and it has to be considered when doing the employee\u2019s payroll (<a href=\"https:\/\/helpersfinance.hu\/salary-calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">see our salary calculator for more info<\/a>). It is based on the number of children eligible for the family allowance, but it is also influenced by the number of dependent children. You can read about the <a href=\"https:\/\/helpersfinance.hu\/family-tax-benefit-the-child-benefit-in-hungary-relevant-for-salary-calculation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">family tax benefit in detail here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parents with eligible and dependent children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of both child benefits is to improve the situation of the\nchildren, so we usually talk about children being eligible for or receiving\nthem. However, both the <strong>family allowance and the family tax benefit are\ngiven to the parent<\/strong> as the caregiver of the children. Parents should decide\nhow they divide these benefits among themselves. Either one of them can receive all, or they can agree on the\nratio between all caregivers, including the new spouses of divorced parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Children are <strong>considered dependent<\/strong> as long as they\nattend education\n(including higher education), have not yet received a college or university degree, live with their parents\u2019 household, and have no stable income.\nHowever, not all dependent children are <strong>actually eligible<\/strong> for the child\nbenefits: only those under 20 years, living in their parents\u2019 household, not\nhaving stable income and still attending high school can receive these benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keep tab on your child\u2019s eligibility!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since eligibility for the family allowance and the family tax benefit is strictly defined, parents should keep in mind when they (and their children) become eligible or when they will lose eligibility.
