In most administrative procedures, getting the right kind of attestation is a formal requirement for your official documents to be accepted by authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When do you need attestation by authorities?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all documents need attestation by authorities. For example, in simpler cases, and when a document is to be used in Hungary while the place of signature is also in Hungary, it is usually enough to have <a href=\"https:\/\/helpers.hu\/fa\/%d8%a7%d9%82%d8%a7%d9%85%d8%aa-%d9%85%d8%ac%d8%a7%d8%b1%d8%b3%d8%aa%d8%a7%d9%86\/who-can-be-a-witness-on-your-hungarian-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 witnesses<\/a> as well as the interested parties, whose relevant data are also to be indicated in the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you <strong>open a Hungarian company as a foreign investor<\/strong>, and you are <strong>not coming to Hungary<\/strong> for the company formation procedure but want to authorize someone with a Power of Attorney, you will need the POA attested. This is because the document will cross borders, and you <strong>need authentication that is recognized in both countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to get a POA attested?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You have several options for getting a Power of Attorney attested. The main element will always be that you have to <strong>sign the document in the presence of the attesting body<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most popular methods for attestation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Signing the POA in the presence of the <strong>Hungarian consul<\/strong> in your country of residence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Getting an <strong>apostille <\/strong>when signing the POA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signing the POA in the presence of a <strong>notary<\/strong>, based on a bilateral agreement between Hungary and your country of residence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is an apostille?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Apostille Convention is an international treaty that lets you create certified documents that are recognized outside of your country of residence. The Apostille Convention has 117 member states, which are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationalapostille.com\/hague-apostille-member-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">listed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Hungary, you can get documents apostilled at public notaries and\nat the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bilateral agreements for attestation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hungary observes bilateral agreements with many countries, which\nlet documents attested by notaries in foreign countries to be recognized in\nHungary. These bilateral agreements are signed with each country individually,\nso you can easily check whether your country of residence has one with Hungary\nin place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which method is best for you?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The type of required attestation depends on various factors, such as where you are from or where the POA will be used. When you are setting up a Hungarian company with a Power of Attorney, make sure to ask your account manager which the best method is for you for getting documents attested.
