Hungarian immunity card available to Hungarian citizens vaccinated abroad

Starting from 21 May, Hungarian citizens may apply for a Hungarian immunity card even if they were vaccinated abroad. In contrast, so far only vaccination in Hungary has been accepted. (You can read the decree in Hungarian here.)

The Hungarian immunity card

The Hungarian immunity card allows you to use various facilities in Hungary, and enter some countries without restrictions. Read more about the freedoms related to the Hungarian immunity card here.

Immunity card for Hungarian citizens vaccinated abroad

If you are a Hungarian citizen and you were vaccinated in one of the countries listed below, you can apply for the Hungarian immunity card through the Ügyfélkapu e-government portal or is person at any government office in Hungary.

  • EU member states
  • EU member candidates (Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey)
  • OECD member states
  • NATO member states
  • Russian Federation
  • People’s Republic of China
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Bahrein
  • Turkic Council member states (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan)
  • Any other country indicated in a decree by the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Safety

Entry to Hungary after vaccination in the above countries

If you are a Hungarian citizen and you have been vaccinated abroad, in any of the countries listed above, you may enter Hungary without any restrictions (so no quarantine for you). For this, at the border you must

  • present a certificate that you are vaccinated in the given country (in English or in Hungarian), and
  • indicate that you intend to apply for a Hungarian vaccination card within 2 working days, or show a confirmation that you have already started the process online.

If you do not apply for a Hungarian vaccination card within 2 working days, you will get quarantined for 10 days.

Applying for a Hungarian vaccination card

You can apply for a Hungarian vaccination card either online, even before your trip to Hungary (details to be added when available) or in person at any government office in Hungary, without an appointment.

The application is free of charge, and your Hungarian immunity certificate will be created within 15 days, and delivered to the mailbox at the mailing address you specify.

To start the process, you must provide:

  • your identification data (name, name at birth, date and place of birth, mother’s maiden name)
  • the number of your identification document (e.g. ID card number or passport number)
  • your mailing address
  • your TAJ number (if you have one)
  • a certificate of your vaccination in Hungarian or English (if it was created in another language, you must submit a certified Hungarian translation) that indicates the type of the vaccine together with the place and date of your vaccination

The above data will be recorded in EESZT, the healthcare related e-government portal in Hungary, where all your healthcare related data are stored.
