In the past few years, Budapest has become famous not only for its ruin pubs, but also for something completely different: escape rooms. Popular among locals and tourists alike, the escape rooms are a great activity for a group of friends, colleagues, or even strangers, using their intelligence and code breaking skills to get out of a locked room in an hour.
What is an escape room?
It is difficult to explain the popularity of escape rooms to those who have not tried them yet. Something about being locked in a dingy room with friends, trying to solve puzzles to get out, while being reminded by the ticking of a clock that you are running out of time gives everyone a boost of adrenaline and excitement they do not get to experience usually. Also, it is a great team-building exercise, as everyone has to cooperate and work together to break all the codes and find the key in time that leads to freedom.
It is almost like being a detective, having to find clues, solve puzzles, and break codes. If your team is successful, you will find secret rooms, hidden clues, and mysterious messages. The end goal is clear: finding the key to the main door and getting out before you run out of time. Your only connection to the outside world is a walkie-talkie through which you can receive hints from the organizers if your team gets stuck. Everything else is up to you and your team.
Nothing shows the popularity of escape rooms more than the fact that lately a vast number of them popped up all around the world, from the US to Japan. So, if you’re not able to visit any of the escape rooms in Budapest, you might just have to look around your corner to find one!
